Dressing by Ariana Page Russell
Ariana Page Russell turns to her own skin as both a canvas and as a source of adornments. “The power of a blush, an ephemeral and uncontrollable response revealing internal sentiment, becomes the fashion of skin. I have sensitive skin that easily flushes. In Dressing, I use the imagery of this temporary change as my medium via collages made from photographs of my skin. These collages show shades of sensitivity in reds and pinks made into patterns, then scanned and printed as temporary tattoos. I place the skin tattoos back on skin, adorning myself with a longer lasting, intentional Ariana_page_russell_pharaoh blush. Rather than being frustrated by my skin’s transparency, I claim it by dressing up in the crimson hues that reveal my vulnerability.” Instead of covering up her skin condition, Russell embraces the changes her skin makes, exploring the concepts of fashion and beauty: “These tattoos become and intimate fashion as their own sort of clothing.... I am investigating where one surface ends and another begins, the bloom of adornment, and how shifting exteriors reveal as they conceal.”

Photos from Venice..and the Biennale..

Some Photos from Venice..and the Biennale.. YES.. as most readers correctly guessed.. MAO and the Quizling went to Venice Italy for a quick summer vacation!

VeniceVenice_Biennale_enterence_MAOBiennale entrance by John Baldessari.

So not only was Venice amazing to see.. but we got to see the 53rd Biennale!!

There was almost too much art to even blog about.. but here are some of the high points from one day's art walk in Venice.

Photo #1 - Actually this is the Entrance to the "Making Worlds" show curated by Daniel Birnbaum at the Giardini.

The following photos (Taken by MAO)

are all works presented at this one exhibition hall at the Giardini which was about half of the curated "Non-National Pavilion" show.

Tomas_saraceno_roomPhoto #2 - Tomas Saraceno

Galaxy Forming along Filaments, like Droplets along the Strands of a Spider's. It filled the entire room probably roughly..a  30 feet by 30 feet cube installation.

Wolfgang_Tillmans_Venice_BiennalePhoto #3 Wolfgang Tillmans, An entire room of his photos. Wolfgang, was one of the only photographers to be included into this years Biennale.

Richard_wentworth_false_ceilingPhoto #4 work by Richard Wentworth.

A new artist to MAO, Richard had 2 sculptural  installations where he's separated familiar objects from their normal surroundings and placed then into new constellations. Quite whimsical!

This work was titled.. False Ceiling.

Spencer_finch_Venice_biennale Photo #5 Spencer Finch.

This was one of 3 works Spencer Finch had included into the Biennale.

I think this one work attempts to recreates candle light as observed by Spencer.

Rachel_khedoori_BiennalePhoto #6 Rachel Khedoori

This Sculpture recreates a labyrinthine cave tunnel system...in miniature plaster. We think this work was just titled "Cave" but not 100% sure.

Simon_Starling Photo #7 work by Simon Starling

A film and sculpture.. titled.. Wilhem Noack oHG. This photo MAo took was just a picture of the "projector" which was showing a film about a company of metal fabricators in Germany.

There's a New On-line Art Project to Watch - "Summer Sexy"

There's a New On-line Art Project to Watch - "Summer Sexy"

OK.. My little MAO-ettes... Do we have a website for you!!!

From the gallery master minds on the far West 27th Street the edge of the known Contemporary Art Universe, comes this new hot and helpful on-line summer art project. FYI.. that would be : a production of Winkleman Gallery and Schroeder Romero.

Since most of the privileged, pampered, tony, lazy,  in the know, collecting art world is at the beach already, these gallerists have put together a cool way for collectors to see what's hot and happening in the galleries.  So, each and every week they have asked the most self important collectors and curators to choose an interesting "Summer Sexy" work of art currently for sale at in a summer gallery show to feature.

These art works are then posted for sale to readers on the www.summer-sexy.blogspot.com website each week.

Adam_Raphael_poker_from_bearly_workingWith any sale commissions going to the collector or curators favorite charity. What could be better than that??  So let your mouse do the walking...

Check out... Summer Sexy!

They's already had some great posts, but's here's just one of the best most sexy choices so far....

Brilliant New York-based collector Michael Hoeh has selected Adam Raphael's 'smokin' photograph "Poker" from Barely Working, currently on exhibition at Bonni Benrubi Gallery(New York).
